			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Springfield</strong><strong>, Mo. – May 14, 2012 –</strong> The <a href="http://www.upspringfield.com/">University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center</a>, located in the heart of downtown Springfield, Mo., in the arts district, will host a <strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">public VIP reception on Wednesday, May 16 at 11:00 &#8211; 11:30 a.m. in the hotel’s open-air atrium to kick off a unique art exhibit program featuring original works from local artisans</span></strong>.  The quarterly art display with works for purchase is a part of the hotel’s corporate sponsorship of the <a href="http://www.springfieldarts.org/">Springfield Regional Arts Council</a>’s (SRAC) Corporate Art Program to support the local arts community.  Located at 333 S. John Q. Hammons Parkway, the University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center is owned and operated by Springfield-based <a href="http://www.jqhhotels.com/">John Q. Hammons Hotels &amp; Resorts</a>, the largest private, independent owner and manager of hotels in the United States.  The company also operates the <a href="http://www.springfieldexpo.com/">Springfield Expo Center</a>.</p>
<p>Visitors to the initial exhibit will have the opportunity to experience original works of art that are contemporary with floral, non-representational figurative, expressionistic or abstract.  Art will be available for immediate purchase and will range from $325 to $4,000 in price, with 25 percent of proceeds going back to support the Springfield arts community.</p>

<p>The public VIP reception on May 16 will feature an “It’s All Missouri” menu highlighting a sampling of culinary delights from local food purveyors.  Several VIPs from area organizations are expected to attend to show their support for the special local arts initiative, including:</p>

He will be responsible for real estate and financing transactions, hotel development activities, acquisitions/dispositions, operational compliance of hotel and corporate legal entities, contracts management, franchise licensing, documentation and compliance, human resources, and oversight of claims and litigation involving the company.</p>
<p>Groves will succeed Justin Harris, who will continue to collaborate with John Q. Hammons Hotels &amp; Resorts in a consulting role while pursuing unrelated family-owned and start-up business ventures. Groves and Harris previously worked together for several years as partners in the Springfield law firm Lowther Johnson Attorneys at Law, LLC.</p>

Hammons Hotels &amp; Resorts</a> today announced Robert Henley’s new appointment as general manager of the <a href="http://www.upspringfield.com/">University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center</a> in the heart of downtown Springfield, Mo.  The 26-year hospitality veteran will be responsible for overseeing operation of the upscale hotel and connecting convention center, as well as the <a href="http://www.springfieldexpo.com/">Springfield Expo Center</a>, combined representing approximately 150,000 square feet of meeting and exhibit space.  Henley will report to John Pasley, one of five regional vice presidents of operations overseeing John Q. Hammons Hotels &amp; Resorts’ national award-winning portfolio of 78 hotels in 24 states, including 5.4 million gross square feet of meeting and convention space.  Springfield, Mo.-based John Q. Hammons Hotels &amp; Resorts is the largest private, independent owner and manager of upscale, full-service hotels in the United States.</p>
<p>Most recently, Henley served as general manager of the 262-room/suite <a href="http://www.holidayinn.com/joplinmo">Holiday Inn Joplin Convention Center and Spa</a> in Joplin, Mo., operated by John Q. Hammons Hotels &amp; Resorts.  John Q. Hammons’ Holiday Inn and 114-suite <a href="http://www.residenceinnjoplin.com/">Residence Inn</a> in Joplin are located in the same hospitality complex, a location that served as the heart of emergency relief efforts after the deadly tornado in 2011 and also as temporary housing for residents displaced by the storm.  Henley has been instrumental in bringing business to Joplin and in collaborating with community leaders and residents on rebuilding efforts.</p>
<p>“I greatly enjoyed my time in Joplin and really appreciate the way the whole community welcomed me and my family.  It’s a special place.  We are going to miss our friends and colleagues in Joplin, even as we look forward with excitement to this new opportunity in Springfield,” Henley said.</p>

The 28-year hospitality veteran will be responsible for overseeing operations for 13 of John Q. Hammons’ properties in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions. Kelly will report to Joe Morrissey, senior vice president of operations for John Q. Hammons Hotels &amp; Resorts’ national portfolio of 78 hotels in 24 states. Springfield, Mo.-based John Q. Hammons Hotels &amp; Resorts is the largest private, independent owner and manager of hotels in the United States.</p>
<p>Most recently, Kelly served as general manager of John Q. Hammons’ Embassy Suites Tampa Hotel &amp; Conference Center near the University of South Florida and Busch Gardens. His expanded responsibilities include product quality, operations efficiencies, financial performance and talent management on behalf of John Q. Hammons’ Embassy Suites Hotels, Homewood Suites, Renaissance and Residence Inn branded properties in Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.</p>
<p>Prior to his joining John Q. Hammons Hotels &amp; Resorts, Kelly was vice president of operations at Atlanta-based Lodgian Inc., where he was responsible for 28 hotels. His hospitality career also includes eight years with Winegardner &amp; Hammons, Inc., where he served as general manager for Radisson and Holiday Inn branded properties. Kelly holds a Bachelor of Science from the School of Management at State University of New York at Buffalo. He completed the Executive Development Program from the College of Business at The Ohio State University.</p>
