A successful real estate investor and developer in the early 1950s, John Q. Hammons recognized a growing need for quality hotels throughout the country. In 1958, he partnered with Roy Winegardner to develop 10 Holiday Inn Hotels, forming Winegardner & Hammons, Inc. These first hotels were immediately successful and served as an early sign of Hammons’ future accomplishments.
In 1969, Hammons founded John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc. The Hammons portfolio quickly developed from these first ten Holiday Inn Hotels to include Embassy Suites, Marriott, Sheraton, and Radisson Hotels, as well as several independently branded hotels and two first-class resorts. Hammons continues to focus on building and providing upscale accommodations, even in times when other developers have found it necessary to cease new construction.
In 1994, John Q. Hammons Hotels went public, launching a new era of hotel development for the company. Today, again as a privately owned company, we operate 71 hotels in 24 states, with another five currently under construction and ten in planning.
